Without us even knowing it, colour gives feeling and emotion to every aspect of our lives not simply in the arts, but in the business world too. When starting your own business and choosing you logo and livery designs, did you opt for the colour for your image just because you liked, it or was there a reason to support your decision?  Did you consider the effect it would have on your potential customers and the hidden message behind your choice?
-
A dominant colour scheme will usually determine how your message comes across, with certain colours helping your advertising convey its message and helping you to attract a specific target audience. This of course means that other colours will undoubtedly have opposite effect.
-
It can be difficult to find information on the meanings of colours and how you can use them positively, especially for your business, so here are some pointers to hopefully start you on the right pathway:
-
Yellow signifies caution, brightness, intelligence, joy and organisation. Yellow is often associated with being friendly and welcoming but can also signify laziness and cynicism. Yellow can be a good choice for any advertising that needs to evoke feelings of humour or friendliness, however, it is also the most difficult colour for the eye to take in.
-
Red brings about a sense of power, strength, action, passion and energy, it has been proven to stimulate a faster heart and breathing rate, therefore red need to be used with care as it can evoke highly charged emotions such as aggression and forcefulness.  Red catches our eye immediately so use red on items that need to draw attention, but sparingly, and remember, in the financial world red has the very negative association of debt!
-
B
lue conveys a logical and analytical approach, intelligence, honesty, tranquillity, compassion, dependability, trustworthiness and tradition.  Blue is used a great deal for financial institutions, legal and medical professions because of its calming and dependable signals.

Purple is the colour of dignity, spirituality, royalty, luxury, wealth and authority. In business it conveys an upmarket swish image and is greatly favoured by artistic personalities.
-
Black suggests elegance, boldness, power, authority and sophistication, undoubtedly a very classic choice.
-
Green is the colour of life, growth, hope, freshness and responsiveness. Green is associated with friendliness, dependability, safety, security, health and strength and is also very easy on the eye.  In business, green symbolises growth and prosperity, making this of course, the ideal colour choice for Quantum Business School!
-
Finally, remember that when you choose the colours for your company, consider the emotions you will evoke and give some thought to the message you want your company to give out!
